NHL Recap Nov 3: Golden Knights Win at Pittsburgh, Canadiens Fall in OT
Our biggest play of the night went to overtime and came back the wrong way: Jets 5, Canadiens 4. That was Tuesday in one score. Our Official Card went 1-2, -1.94 units. Here's every play, graded at the price we posted.
The three plays
| Play | Price (implied % / American) | Units | Final | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canadiens ML vs Jets | 63.5% / -174 | 2u | Jets 5, Canadiens 4 (OT) | L, -2.00u |
| Avalanche ML at Blue Jackets | 52.5% / -111 | 1u | Blue Jackets 7, Avalanche 2 | L, -1.00u |
| Golden Knights ML at Penguins | 48.5% / +106 | 1u | Golden Knights 3, Penguins 2 | W, +1.06u |
What we saw before puck drop
- Canadiens: our model had Montreal about 3.7-2.4 at home. Proven wallets leaned Montreal 9 to 4, and 3 of 4 top handicappers agreed. Three signals, so it got our max 2u. It lost in overtime.
- Avalanche: the model had Colorado about 4.0-2.7 and wallets leaned Colorado 11 to 3. We held it to 1u because it was the second night of a back-to-back with the backup goalie expected. Columbus won 7-2.
- Golden Knights: the model had Vegas about 3.8-2.9 and wallets leaned Vegas 13 to 3. The only plus-money play on the card cashed, 3-2.
The takeaway
A loss at -174 costs more than a win at +106 pays, so we size by how many signals agree, not by how safe a price looks. Our separate Top Handicapper Daily Streak Pick was also Golden Knights ML (-108), and it won.
